Des Moines Register Gets to Know Doug and Operation Red State

Thanks to Renda Lutz for asking me to share what we do here at Operation Red State with the Des Moines Register’s audience.  The picture shows off the home studio pretty nicely too.  The green screen is to the right there but you get the idea.

Here’s a sample from the piece:

Why did you create OperationRedState.com: The digital divide between conservatives and the opposition was palpable in 2008. This gap was boldly accentuated by President Obama’s hyper-strategic use of technology to develop “micro-constituencies” online. I wanted to passionately target a niche market with our membership web site platform and it hit me, “Why not deliver the same web strategy and new media execution we deliver to businesses…to conservative political candidates?”

The membership site allows us to create compelling content once and serve clients affordably throughout the nation. We actively provide web-execution services to campaigns as well.

Can Do Conservatives Chairman Brian Donegan on the Red Alert Hour

I was truly amazed to hear Brian’s story and how he’s faced adversity to become an advocate for the Conservative Disabled in America.  His message is manifold…but a key piece of his platform is that the Disabled cannot and should not be counted on to vote in lockstep with Democrats.  Brian was in town to speak at a Bob Vander Plaats fundraiser and is become quite a celebrity if you ask me.  Please take some time and listen to this great hour of inspiration.

Dear Political Website Builders, Strategists, and candidates

Dear Political Website Builders, Strategists, and Candidates – Using Blogs, Youtube, Facebook, and Twitter put you at the C minus level…just below average.  That’s right.  If you thought having those tools in place got you kudos from the coveted voting blocks you seek with these tools…you’ve just entered the game.

There are many political website builders and full service campaign companies operating today.  There will be more as races heat up around the country.   But at Operation Red State we have noticed a gap in the online strategies of many candidates.  Most campaigns get connected with some social media tools and use Twitter to say where they are…but that’s about it.

Becoming a candidate that engages the 18-40 demographic means a whole new style of campaigning and a new level of transparency.  It’s uncomfortable to imagine at first but it will become the standard.

To become the “Candidate 2.0″ here are the key words to remember:

  1. accessibility
  2. transparency
  3. engagement
  4. multiphasic conversation
  5. live streaming
  6. virtual town hall
  7. chat
  8. impromptu meetups
  9. tweetups
  10. content multi-purposing

At ORS, we exist to compliment the website builders and consultants.  Our goal is to provide an educational platform that’s affordable enough for the entire volunteer crew to gain knowledge, get informed, and ASSIMILATE into your online strategy.  Campaigns are only as good as their volunteers.  Isn’t it time we worked together to win?

(If you own, operate, or are a leader in an organization that delivers technology solutions to candidates, please give our platform a try.  We’d like to talk to you about adding our service into your mix so candidates get the complete picture of what technologies exist and what they can do for their campaigns.)

Calling all small local race candidates for Mayor – School Board – City Council

I’ve spoken with many candidates in small races. These folks are becoming pretty sophisticated in their use of data to dissect voters in their towns and target them appropriately. However, few small candidates develop a clear online strategy besides the obligatory “brochure website”, Facebook page, and Twitter account. I don’t want to put too much pressure on you all…but YOU are the future of our nation! Huh?

The local races around this nation serve as a bench for higher office. The leadership and decision making skills you hone, even in a “non-partisan” office, will drive you into contention for other races. Those races including state legislature, Gubernatorial, or even U.S. legislature need your conservative leadership.

So, start early in the game. Develop a clear…and winning online campaign strategy now. Get used to the tools and power of technology so you’re not behind when the big race comes up. Blow your competition away by bringing out voters that were ignored. We can do this…together.

Curtis Carroll touts the power of ORS to empower small budget campaigns

Curtis Carroll provides a very direct interview about the impact of Operation Red State on Conservatives.  He mentions how the tools that ORS provides training in will:

  1. Broaden the conversation
  2. Give key policy makers access to the grassroots and what people are saying on the street
  3. Empower small budget campaigns by giving them direct access to the tools and strategies that until now, only larger campaigns had access to
  4. Allow candidates and campaigns to be proactive

Thanks very much Curtis for delivering a fantastic commentary on conservatives’ use of technology.
