Dave Funk – FunkForCongress.com Dazzles the Red Alert Hour Studio

Picture 4I had the pleasure of interviewing Dave Funk (FunkForCongress.com) last night on the Operation Red State – Red Alert Hour.  Dave really has an amazing story to tell and he’s a tried and true conservative.  Take a listen and get Dave’s take on National Defense, Taxes, the Second Amendment, and the driving force that launched his campaign.

I’ve embedded the live stream video below but have also included audio only for download/podcast because the studio cameras were not cooperating last night so for the last 40 minutes or so, you’ll be staring at the station logo.

Red Alert Hour Webcast Now Weekly Show Thursdays from 5-6PM Central

We have joined forces with Des Moines Local Live web radio and have launched the Operation Red “Red Alert Hour” show hosted by yours truly each week on Thursdays between 5-6PM Central.

We’ll have local and national guests as we ramp up the next election cycle in 2010.  I can’t wait to see what great content we’re going to develop with our guests.  The show format is typically an hour long dive into an issue or guest and I just might have regular sidekicks in studio to keep my facts straight and to avoid tangents on Stark Trek or The Big Lebowski.

Please either listen live or subscribe to our RSS feed to stay in the Red Alert Hour loop.

Red Alert Hour Interview with Tom Blaskovich – Conservative Local Leader

I spent an hour with Tom Blaskovich, a Des Moines native who was a catalyst for my move to Iowa four years ago.  We talk local issues, politics, and discuss what will happen when conservatives take back both Houses and the Governor’s office.  Will THEY be the responsible party when they have the power?

Are you running for office and have an election coming up this Novemember?

I’ve been working a deal with a candidate for Mayor on Twitter.  Election day is November 3rd and he asked if we would extend his membership to cover through that date.  That exchange prompted this clarification and this DEAL!

  1. ORS is designed to help you as a candidate AND as the incumbent.  Once elected to office, you’ll want to stay abreast of the latest on technology.  You’ll receive continued training and education in what will keep you effieciently communicating and leading with technology on your side.
  2. Since many smaller budget mayoral campaigns are nervous about budgets…we’re extending ANYONE who signs up during the month of July through the end of November.  So call it a free month or call it customer appreciation.  The bottom line is that we want to EARN your business over the long haul.

Sign up for ORS on the right hand side of this page and we’ll take care of the rest.  Thank you.

To Conservatives: Usurp the Green Candidate Position With Technology

Ed Begley Jr.

Admit it…it’s frustrating as heck to hear “non-conservatives” touting their “Green Candidacy” when truth is, unless you’re Ed Begley Jr, we’re all probably taking the sedan to our meetings across town vs. riding our bikes and showing up less than dry.  We at Operation Red State live a very Green Lifestyle.  By leveraging technology, we’ve virtually elminated the use of paper in our business.  We do gather in our studio regularly…but often times we meet in remote locations close to each other’s homes.  Or we work from equally equipped (and very cool) home offices.  So if you’re a conservative candidate running for local or state office…are you ready to claim the “Green” label?  You should be ready NOW.  So do it.  Here’s how to ensure you’re ready.

Let’s create your Green Candidate Scorecard:  Start from 0 and add up your score.  Scoring weights are arbitrarily decide by the author.

  1. Be transparent with your paper usage.  Publish tangible numbers and include the paper product purchases for your campaign.  Easy to track.  Does your competitor have this data? No.  Therefore you are the Green Candidate +2
  2. Log your walking miles.  Green candidates door knock and log the mileage of their own hoofing plus their campaign staff/volunteers.  Your competitor doesn’t have this data.  You win. +2
  3. Log your driving miles.  Log your campaign mileage and that of your staff.  Even if you’re Chris Rants and have logged 15k+ miles recently assessing the pulse of voters…you are the Green Candidate.  Why? Even if the other candidate has fewer miles and claims the Green label, he/she isn’t as invested in gathering voter positions on issues.  Besides, today’s vehicles barely puff out a gnat’s breath worth of emissions. You win.  +1
  4. Use Collaboration software like Central Desktop to coordinate with team members, staff, and volunteers.  (Obama used Central Desktop to organize at the precinct level in CA and TX and this on-demand software starts at $25/mo).  By using online documents and housing communication here..you reduce paper usage by an order of magnitude.  Set this as a standard within your campaign and hire people who support using tech to be efficient and be Green.  +2
  5. Use live streaming at events to allow 100X the viewership and attendance without the travel expense and “carbon output”.  Maybe you can use ustream.TV to hold an event where 50 people attend in person and 50 attend online.  You’ve reduced your carbon footprint by 50% by leveraging technology.  You’re green. You win. +3

What’s your score? I’m going to go out on the limb of a respsonsibly replanted tree and say that even if you only earned 1 point on this quiz that YOU are the Green Candidate.  Do not let this opportunity slide by.  I find most conservatives to be far more in tune with the reality of a clean environment, energy,  water, air, etc.  Lay it on the line and go for it!

Want to join the ORS revolution? Just look to the right —-> Over there and sign up.  If we haven’t earned your business yet…start with the free stuff.  Thanks a metric ton.

The Operation Red State team proudly announces that it will be serving as a strategic technology partner to the Funk For Congress Campaign in Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District.

Mr. Funk is an amazing conservative candidate and will fully engage technology to communicate his message and open a two-way channel of communication with voters.  Funk stands on a solid conservative base and his message is straightforward and powerful.

We’ve partnered to ensure Funk’s 3rd District constituents get a “360 degree view” of their candidate…not only receiving the stump speeches…but gleaning powerful insights into Funk through candid “campaign trail” content.

We’re proud to have Dave Funk on both the Campaign Technology Consulting side of ORS…as well as the subscription side where we provide remarkably affordable technology training for your entire campaign leadership, volunteers, and staff.  Now the Funk for Congress Campaign is fully armed…locked and loaded…and ready to take back the Third Congressional District of Iowa.

Are you ready…to win?

So where do you stand on the Second Amendment? Are your convictions as strong as “The Nuge’s?” Wow. Ted Nugent starts off talking about freedoms and responsibilities…and progresses into some pretty hard core street justice scenarios. So stack your views up against Ted’s. This video is well worth the couple minutes.

Does Twitter exist for those younger than 25?

Simply put.  NO.  I’ve asked every group of students and those just out of school and generally speaking Twitter is a non-starter.  So is there a secret marketing platform or social media platform we can use to reach them? It’s called…the cell phone.

Just about 100% of the 18-25 demographic has a cell phone and they text message like crazy.  Many will give you permission to market to them…if you ask.

Luckily, ORS has partnered with a text message marketing platform that’s easy to use and affordable. (Full interview for subscribers).  It’s called Catch Wind and if you’re running a campaign or are a candidate yourself and TRULY want to connect with this demographic…just use the communication medium they’re using.

Doug Mitchell on The Bean Walker LIVE Show Talking Campaign Technology

I was privledged to spend an hour with Tim Albrecht who runs The Bean Walker.com site and the 2 hour per week Internet Livecast.  We talked technology and politics and we had a great time.  An hour really flies when you’re having fun.  Thanks again Tim and we hope your viewing/listening audience learned something new!
